The Spirit of ‘76, the Orange Way!
Join us Tuesday July 28th for a trip down memory lane as we remember all the fuss and fanfare that surrounded the celebration of America’s Bicentennial! We’ll look at some of what the country was doing and work our way down to how the city of Orange marked that year.
1976 was a year to take stock as a nation. Gerald Ford was in his second year after Richard Nixon resigned as President. Jimmy Carter would win the highest office in November. The USA won 94 medals at the Montreal Olympics. The Vietnam war had ended the year before after much loss and sorrow. Into this season our country was taking stock of how this country all began. Some of the national activities made their way here to Orange County and Orange proper. Our city also looked back at where we had come from. Some of these efforts continue to inform our citizens today.
So put on your favorite polyester leisure or pant suit, gather up any Bicentennial bric a brac or pictures you would care to show on our display table(s) and bring friends and family members to the Orange Public Library’s Main Branch Community Room at 5:30.
Red, white and blue attire is encouraged! Let’s have fun!
